#EDM Is a Hobby – TomorrowWorld 2013 LookBack

But how can music be a hobby?

To be honest, I can’t fully explain it myself. I’ve seen it compared to other previously frowned upon genres like rock & roll and rap. But really, “EDM culture” is not like anything I’ve ever experienced.

EDM means electronic dance music, which encompasses a wide variety of stylistic choices. As a newbie to this musical culture, I’m still learning which subgenres I prefer and which ones I don’t care for. Many people define their tastes by choosing subgenres and listening to artists within that genre, pretty much like you’d do with any other musical genre.

Still, to me it’s not about all the politics or subgenres. It’s about being with people who respect and love you not matter who you are or where you cam from. It’s about living in the moment and enjoying the music. At TomorrowWorld 2013, I experienced a peaceful unity with strangers that I’ve never felt before. I was content with life and just happy to dance the night away with my new friends.

You can wear what you want. You can dance you want. You can share in the mutual love and respect of enjoying the same music. It’s about losing yourself in the music and not care about anything but that moment. It’s a collective people of euphoria. It’s something that’s truly special.

So, how can music be a hobby? I still can’t explain it. All I know is: Judge no one; Love Everyone!

This past weekend, many of my friends who I consider my #edmfamily ventured out to the second chapter of TomorrowWorld. Despite promising myself a year ago that I’d go, I did not go this year. With good reason. (Enjoying my new hubby, puppies, and house!)

To reminisce (which I seem to be doing a lot of lately) I’ve compiled a few videos and photos below from last year. You better believe I’m already making plans for TomorrowWorld 2015!

My TomorrowWorld 2013 Flashback Video

I stared up at the sun,
Thought of all of the people, places and things I’ve loved.
I stared up just to see
With all of the faces, you were the one next to me.
